Lessons

Computer science and programming is one of the most important skills to have in the modern workforce. Unfortunately, it is massively neglected in most high schools and colleges even though it is one of the top paying careers. By 2020 there will be 1.4 million computing jobs but only 400,000 computer science students. In California alone there are 80,157 unfilled computing jobs. One of those jobs could be yours.

Of the students enrolled in AP computer science in high school in 2012 only 8% were Hispanic or African American. Only 15% were women. These figures are similar at top technology companies as well. That means that 75% of our population is being underrepresented in one of the most well-paying industries on the planet.

This is your introduction to just how easy, fun, and magical programming can be. But this is just the beginning. We will provide you with the resources you need if you wish to continue pursuing this skill and career path. This module, more than any other we've done so far, can dramatically change your life.

Project

So, what you'd think? Not as hard as you thought, right? Now that you know some of the basics you can start exploring more the more advanced web development course on HTML & CSS. There you will get more familiar with how to build the modern Internet. It's also a great jumping off point for learning JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, and many other programming languages. Most importantly, it's the first step in building your own coding project.

This is not required but you are more than welcome to work on it during class or on your own time.
