Youth

One of the needs that the community has always had is for a safe place for youth to learn, grow, and become strong adults. Arriba Juntos serves as a Safe Haven site for youth and children to fill this void in the community and provides educational programs and job training for children and youth as follows:

The Afterschool program allows elementary school children to complete all of their homework with one-on-one assistance from tutors, and also participate in fun educational activities when they are done. Arriba Juntos extends these services through the summer.

Arriba Juntos provides comprehensive employment and educational services to at-risk-youth as follows:

The Basic Remedial Education (BRE) program allows our young clients an opportunity to get up to speed in their education.  BRE covers basic math, reading, and critical thinking.

The General Education Diploma (GED) preparation class offers students an opportunity to receive guided tutoring to successfully complete the GED test and receive their diploma. Tutoring includes support in math, language, science and social studies.

Also, the Computer Remedial Education (CRE) program helps youth get up to speed with basic word processing, e-mail use, and Internet surfing to gain computer skills and technology literacy.

The Power Up Youth Program include educational programs (BRE, GED, CRE), work readiness workshops (life/soft skills), employer motivational workshops, peer support, educational guidance, case management, supportive services and resources linkage. Youth receive the customized attention they need to reach their individual goals. This project accepts youth throughout the city who have been involved in, or are at risk for involving in the Criminal System.

The Northwest Community Response Network (NWCRN) is a program that offers immediate response in times of crisis in our youth community. It creates communication links between caseworkers in the agencies serving youth and by providing activities for youth during peak hours of violence. Additionally, the CRN also offers a late night Safe Haven for our older youth to stay out of trouble. The Mission CRN is the original program of its type, and has since been adopted in other neighborhoods.
